About Children’s Corps

A signature program of the non-profit Fostering Change for Children, Children’s Corps is an innovative and unique approach to the multitude of challenges currently facing the child welfare system. We use rigorous methods of recruitment and selection to attract outstanding individuals to the field, then provide a four-week intensive pre-service training before placing our Corps members in partner child welfare agencies. Throughout their two-year commitment, Corps members receive continuous support, mentoring, and training. The mission of Children’s Corps is to improve vulnerable children’s well-being and chances for success by building a workforce with highly-skilled and dedicated workers who have the potential to become leaders in the field.

Our fourth class of 49 Corps members has recently entered the front line, working in foster care, preventive services and residential services and we currently have a total of 90 Corps members servicing over 1,500 children in New York City. These are their stories and reflections on their experiences.
